Sun Microsystems to Revamp its Partner Structure

Newly appointed MD and VP of Sun Microsystems (India), Anil Valluri, in an interview with Channel Times said that the company wants to maintain the growth rate of 30% year on year. Valluri echoed the sentiments of Sun CEO Jonathan Schwartz's opinion in a May blog, in which he said, " The highlight of our quarter was our India performance, up 30% year over year - and our chip multi-threading Niagara systems, which grew (billings)."
"Besides increasing the volume for x86 servers, we also want to focus on our services business. We offer infrastructure related services. Our customers get Sun's IP and technology," said Valluri. For the large corporate deals, the company has set-up a global team, which works in tandem with the local executives. "We are revamping the partner structure. We are involving more partners as system integrators, essentially due to the shift in loyalties. The partners are now loyal towards a particular solution than to a particular vendor. We are also reworking the pricing strategy," he informed. On the SMB segment, Sun is making changes among the channel space. It is increasing the number of lead covers, and is also putting the SMB partners into the volume space. Valluri revealed, "We will roll out the SMB program in the next ten days." On the investments, he said, "Investments are a continuous process. We have doubled the head count in India in the last 6 months. We have increased presence in new cities. We will continue to focus on Intellectual Property (IP), training and solution centers."
